about

Last year I wrote a sad Christmas song, which happens to be one of my favorite genres of music. Songs like Merry Christmas Darling by The Carpenters and The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole instantly tug at your heartstrings because they perfect capture the bittersweetness of the holidays with their melancholy melodies.

The scenarios depicted in Christmas All Alone are fictional, but this season hits me in the heart every year. So often heartache at the holidays is compounded by the loneliness of an unfamiliar hometown: The neighborhoods are glittering with lights but your friends have moved away. You make weird eye contact with old acquaintances at the bar, you see your ex with someone else. You swipe all the way through Tinder. You argue with your parents.

This year is especially heavy given the global pandemic and political turmoil. So many of us are hurting and so many of us do find ourselves alone. In a way, It's comforting to have a universal experience of the holidays. This is the spirit of this single, and I hope it finds a home with you this Christmas. I hope you enjoy this bittersweet song about lost love; I've recently learned myself that sadness is a teacher <3.

Love you,
Paige // Half Dream

lyrics

Windows Fogging, snow is falling
Christmas all alone
I left that letter on your doorstep;
maybe you weren't home

I wrote your name on every package
underneath the tree
Every pen stroke like a prayer to bring you home to me

I don't need a holiday to send my love,
but baby if you hear me somehow please come home

I'll pour two glass just in case
you have a change of heart
Hanging your stocking by the fireplace
there upon our hearth

I don't need a holiday to send my love,
but baby if you hear me somehow please come home

I don't need a holiday to send my love,
but baby if you hear me somehow please come home
