Will I Still Bloom? is the question asked by Half Dream’s title track to their debut LP and one that can only be answered in the heart of the inquirer. Songwriter Paige Renée Berry utilizes the key elements of any good anthem—purposes and passion—to amplify the cry of a weary generation. It seems a contradiction that existential fear could be both hinderance and motivation, but in truth, many questions don’t have answers. Finding yourself somewhere in the middle of the growth process is to live within ambiguity. A flower doesn’t question it’s blossom; it simply unfolds with the seasons. Half Dream has certainly entered a new season with this first taste of their recent effort, demonstrating a more mature narrative voice and musicianship. Will I Still Bloom? is an exploration of what it means to alchemize fear into determination by embracing all outcomes. Half Dream has certainly entered a new season with this first taste of their recent effort; by harnessing the global and personal hardships of the years between their debut EP Monster of Needing and present, they offer a glimpse of something far better on the other side.
